Summer's the worst..really! As far as '09 goes, it's a dry time for new music, a total drought. And no I haven't heard the new Grizzly Bear, don't ask (even though I know I totally should.) But whatever, ho hum.. someday.
Speaking of shitty summers, this Michael Leviton record definitely brings the essence. It's totally depressing, but was '07 really that bad? (I don't remember, so it must've been good -zing!) It's not like you can expect much else from an incredibly emotional ukulele singer/songwriter, anyway. And that's ok. I love ukes. Music is cool too, I guess. My Favorite Place to Drown would be an awesome addition to your summer listenings, especially with July coming to a frightening close. Seriously, it's scary. Almost as scary as the ridiculous emotional downtime I've gotten from "The Glanis Fish:" a fantastic example of the album's pleasent blips of small surprises, like miniature gifts, including the guest vocals of a woman I have failed to identify, as well as an electric guitar, piano and a collective of the island-instrument typicals. The whole package. Snag it while you can, there aren't too many humid sunsets and bonfires left to tend to, but there's still time.
